An experience to remember - work placement at Colour Heroes

I completed my Year 10 work experience at Colour Heroes. My two-week work placement was nothing like I imagined it to be. I was given the opportunity to design and create a worksheet which is now available to purchase on the Colour Heroes shop!

Before I came here, I had not used a Wacom tablet before or done any proper digital drawing. Since I started, my skills have grown immensely, and I could not believe how much progress I had made in such a small amount of time. Digital drawing is very complicated, but the more I got used to it, the more it made me realise how enjoyable it is and how it makes a good cause even more worthwhile.

Doing this for my work experience has given me a greater understanding of businesses and the different types of jobs that I may want to undertake in the future. Designing a worksheet gave me more confidence in trying out new things and taught me to be more patient when things go wrong. Although I am yet to find what my goals and aspirations are for the future, working at Colour Heroes and feeling like a member of the team has definitely influenced the possible directions of where I might be headed with my career.

I am very passionate about drawing. It helps to easily take my mind off anything and focus solely on one thing. Working was not something I thought would be fun. Doing one type of thing over and over each week seemed boring to me, but doing this made me realise that all I need is something I love and everything else will just come naturally.

These worksheets aim to educate and embrace creativeness, all whilst keeping them interesting and colourful. I hope I achieved that and can give children the chance to explore new things and find learning fun. As someone who has many younger siblings who have used Colour Heroes’ worksheets before, I know that they are amazing for a child to take their mind off things or just to do an activity and learn whilst having fun. Being able to create one of these was truly a wonderful experience and hopefully others will enjoy using it just as much as I enjoyed making it.
